Statement of Purpose

Sunshine's Place is a family-focused, all-encompassing program available year-round for children and families in the greater New Bedford area. The Center aims to promote early learning, encourage independence and self-sufficiency, and enhance family capabilities through a variety of support services, including before-school care, full-day and half-day preschool programs focusing on academic and social skills, after-school programs, tutoring and homework assistance, mentoring projects, parent and parenting groups, a youth leadership program, and specially scheduled recreational events.

Deeper Understanding

The Center is dedicated to promoting early learning, fostering independence, and enhancing family capabilities through a wide range of available services. We place special emphasis on creating a language-rich environment, encouraging child-centered exploration and learning, and addressing the social and emotional needs of young children to prepare them for public school. Serving a mixed-income residential community, Sunshine's Place celebrates the racial and ethnic diversity of our neighborhood and the broader city.

We offer comprehensive childcare programming, extended hours, a creative social skills curriculum, and a bilingual, multicultural academic approach. Our safe learning environment supports both children and families with multilingual services and programs. Sunshine's Place Early Learning Center honors the individuality and cultural diversity of those within our center and the larger community. Our curriculum and physical environment are thoughtfully designed to promote awareness and respect for the diversity among us. We celebrate the world around us in ways that are inclusive and accessible for children to understand and incorporate into their lives, without prioritizing or excluding any particular cultural beliefs.
